Final Day at Atlanta, but certainly not the least

So today marks the 4th day and officialy our final day of our service trip in atlanta and I was more than excited to finish strong and complete the service in which we embarked on. We volunteered at the Hill Hope elementary school under the Junior achievement program right here in Atlanta. We facilitated the reading, drawing and interaction activities in the kindergarten class and every bonner scholars were paired up to take over different kindergarten classes. My class held about 20 children and I was excited to see how well equipped and technologically advanced the classrooms were. The classroom I worked in, had smart boards, and many other academic resources that I feel like we can incorporate into the hedgepath program we have back at home. I was happy to see that the children were academically nourished and had all the resources they had to be knowledgable about so many things. I facilitated my class with Robert and together we read 5 stories each with a creative and different activity of its own. In fact, we prepared prior to entering the classroom, so we were prepared and were able to get through the entire lesson plan without runing out of time. The teacher was clearly pleased with our effort and the children appreciated it as well. During each activities, robert and I made it a priority to involve the kids as much as possible and get them to interact at a level that would broaden their thinking and imaginative skills. We allowed some of them to pass out some of the materials for the activity, asked them questions during and after activity, asked for their opinions and steered them in the right direction when they seem to not understand. At the end of the entire session, we passed out certificates to every single one of them which they really appreciated and it put a smile on my face to see how much they had learned from the time we spent with them. Today was awesome and I hope to come back to do the same.
